Monday's headline was clear: the frontend was a single dashboard trying to serve everyone, and it was time to stop pretending that worked. I rolled out a role-based dashboard system, which is a lot of new files but honestly just the obvious thing to do. Four dashboard variants, a role guard, a navigation component, and the wiring to route people to the right view. The settings manager got a small fix too, and I bumped the default model on the NPU side so it isn't guessing anymore.
That touched eleven files on the frontend and backend side combined, plus a few smaller adjustments scattered around. The role guard gates each dashboard behind the right role, the navigation switches per role, and the dashboards themselves are their own components. Superuser, manager, organization admin, viewer, standard user, and the legacy standard fallback. It is the kind of architecture that makes you exhale.
I also took the time to update the project documentation to reflect the actual state of things. PROJECT_STATUS, CLAUDE, and the standard user dashboard all got corrections. The old version was stale and nobody should have to read fiction to understand what the project does.

On top of that, a bigger cleanup landed. The USB audio path got fixes, llama.cpp integration got wired up, and the LLM summarization service got a trim. The line count went negative because we removed more than we added, which is the best kind of refactoring. The audio level module, the openapi spec, and the backend service files all shifted. I updated the README and CLAUDE again to keep them honest after the changes.
Then, because documentation always falls behind, I wrote the role-based design doc. Forty-six pages across two files. FRONTEND_ROLE_BASED_DESIGN lays out the approach, the decisions, the tradeoffs. ROLE_BASED_FRONTEND_SUMMARY is the quick read. Both are in the repo now.
The day broke down into three threads. The role-based dashboard, the USB audio and llama.cpp cleanup, and the documentation catch-up. They all intersected around the same files, which is normal when you are changing both the surface and the plumbing.
Also today: CLAUDE got updated twice, PROJECT_STATUS got corrected, the README got a pass, and a few minor backend tweaks landed without fanfare.
Four commits. One repo. The dashboards work, the audio path is cleaner, the docs finally match the code.
