Unicorn Commander — user dashboard.

Friday arrived with a mix of small fires and one massive refactor. I spent the morning wrestling with a build tool that was trying to help too much, then spent the afternoon untangling a session bug that kept kicking people out. The rest was security hardening and a big feature drop that I’m genuinely happy with.

The day started with a crash I could not ignore. The @mui/charts library was being eager-split by Vite into its own chunk, and that lazy loading was triggering a React.useLayoutEffect crash. It was a classic case of a dependency hell that only shows up in production builds. I stopped the eager splitting, rebuilt the frontend artifacts, and watched the crash disappear. It was a small fix in the config, but it kept the app from breaking when users tried to view charts. I did this four times across two commits because sometimes you just have to commit the fix, rebuild, and verify it sticks.

While the build was stable, I turned my attention to the user experience in unicorn-brigade. The OIDC session was expiring every five minutes, which is a terrible user experience. I implemented a silent session refresh mechanism so users stay logged in without being prompted for credentials. I also fixed a navigation issue where hitting the login route was not properly redirecting to Keycloak. The result is a smoother auth flow where the browser handles the 302 redirects correctly and the session stays alive.

The day started with a crash I could not ignore.

The biggest work of the day was in glitter-mane. I shipped the Care circle feature that allows sharing charts with UC accounts using roles. This involved a massive refactor across 52 files, adding 1662 lines and removing 3047. It was a deep dive into the backend models, database connections, and frontend components. I also added an Aurora multi-hue GUI update to make the charts look better. This was the kind of work that takes all day but feels good when it ships.

Security was also on the agenda. I bound Grafana and Prometheus to the mesh IP in center-deep-pro and did the same for Postgres and the Traefik dashboard in uc-cloud. This ensures that internal monitoring services are not exposed to the public internet. It is boring work, but it keeps the system safe.

I also spent some time on ops-center to ensure the deployment artifacts were clean after the MUI fix. It was a small commit, but it kept the release pipeline moving.

Overall, it was a productive Friday. I fixed a crash, improved the auth flow, shipped a big feature, and locked down some security. The day added up to a stable, secure, and feature-rich system.
