Tuesday morning started with a feeling more than a plan: I was about to dive back into the GUI work on multistate-retirement-leads, and the codebase had shifted enough that I wanted a safety net. Not because I expected to break anything catastrophically, but because that's what responsible engineering looks like when you're sitting on a half-finished feature.

I called the commit \"Pre-major-feature checkpoint\" and it was exactly that. Fifty-five thousand lines added, fourteen hundred removed, across one hundred and eleven files. The number sounds theatrical until you remember it's mostly GUI scaffolding piling up. The backend touched the usual suspects: Dockerfile, auth, main app router, models, contact and segment routes, the form 5500 leads endpoint, the ingestion pipeline, the scheduler. Then there were ninety-nine more files I won't enumerate here, because the point isn't the file count. The point is that I stopped, looked at what I'd built, and said \"not yet.\"

GUI work has a way of accelerating until it becomes a house of cards. You fix one layout, something else collapses two screens over, and suddenly you're chasing phantom bugs instead of shipping features. The checkpoint commit is just me admitting that and hitting save.

I called the commit \"Pre-major-feature checkpoint\" and it was exactly that.

There's no dramatic bug story here, no dependency hell, no \"I stayed up until 3 AM\" moment. Just the quiet discipline of recording where you stand before you move forward. Sometimes that's the whole day.

Also today: nothing else worth mentioning. One commit, one repo, a clean boundary drawn at the right time.

The day added up to good process.
