Tax-Planning-Ops — planner desk.

Thursday, October 9, 2025. 8 commits across the taxsquare-cpa repo. It was a day of fixing leaks and building walls.

The dashboard was lying to me. The My Tasks widget sat there empty, claiming it had nothing to show even when tasks existed. I tracked down the issue in frontend/app/dashboard/page.tsx and frontend/app/dashboard/my-tasks/page.tsx. The API response format had shifted and the frontend wasn't parsing it correctly. I fixed the parsing logic and added a quick tweak to frontend/components/modals/task-details-modal.tsx so the page actually refreshes after a task is assigned. It is a small fix, but it stops the dashboard from looking broken.

The big lift today was the document management system. I spent the majority of the day building out an inline viewer. The diff for that commit is massive: 23446/-940, 117 files I wired up the backend, updated the environment variables, and created a whole suite of documentation for the implementation. It is now possible to view documents inline without leaving the page. This changes how the user interacts with files. It feels more integrated.

I fixed the parsing logic and added a quick tweak to `frontend/components/modals/task-details-modal.

I also cleaned up the infrastructure. The backend health check was failing because the Temporal service was running but unused. I disabled it in infrastructure/docker/docker-compose.yml. It saves resources and stops the logs from filling up with noise.

There was a moment of dependency hell when I tried to add enhanced logging to the task assignment dropdown. The commit message says "enhanced logging" but the diff shows 5973/-4, 19 files I spent a lot of time untangling that. It turned out to be a mix of generated reports and test summaries getting pushed along with the code. I cleaned up the clutter and made sure the logging actually worked. It was a messy process but the result is cleaner.

I also fixed a minor accessibility warning in the document viewer modal. It was a four-line fix in frontend/components/documents/document-viewer-modal.tsx but it matters. The modal should be usable for everyone.

I updated the CLAUDE.md file to reflect the evening session progress. It is a living document and it needs to stay current.

Also today: I ran a security checklist, updated the roadmap, and generated a bunch of reports. These are administrative tasks but they keep the project shipshape.

The day added up to stability. The dashboard works, the documents load, and the infrastructure is quieter. I am not shipping a new feature today, I am shipping a better experience. That counts.
