Monday started with a crash report from the real-estate-command-center: the GUI wouldn't launch on Ubuntu Server 25.04 running KDE6 with Wayland. This wasn't a subtle edge case either. The application was simply refusing to start, which means nobody using that stack could use any of it.
I dug into the launch path and found the issues spread across five files. The core problem was in the enhanced colonel client, the AI team chat module, the main window initialization, and the user management tab. Each one had assumptions baked in that broke hard when Wayland became the default display server on the new Ubuntu release. KDE6's changes to how sessions initialize meant the old startup sequence was hitting errors before the window could even render.
The fix touched 2282 lines added and 7 removed. Most of the additions were around proper initialization ordering and Wayland-compatible session handling. The main_window.py got the bulk of the changes since it's the entry point, but the colonel client and chat modules also needed their startup sequences reworked to not assume a X11 environment. The user management tab was along for the ride with some initialization fixes.

It's a straightforward kind of bug. The application worked fine everywhere except this one specific combination, which means nobody on the core team was running it until a user actually tried. That's just how it goes with desktop environment fragmentation. Wayland adoption is accelerating and the desktop stack changes fast.
Also today: updated the CLAUDE.md docs to reflect the new startup requirements.
Five files, one broken stack, application runs again.
