I spent the day deep in the E02 live fixes bundle, specifically targeting the deploy #4 bundle (P-00154). The goal was to ship a robust set of features and fixes that would hold up under scrutiny. It was a heavy day, 33 commits across 1 repos, but the work coalesced into a few distinct arcs.
The biggest win was getting the "Name Your Price" feature live on track pages. I built out the full component, including the amount input, floor hints, and the ability for users to pick +$1, +$2, or +$5 additions. I also wired up the "cover the fee" toggle, which adds a line item for the transaction fee. This wasn't just a UI change; it required significant backend work. I added server-side logic, webhook annotations, and a new database migration (0017) to handle the fee logic. To ensure it worked correctly, I wrote 72 assertions for the fee formula, including floor and ceiling validation. I also added a supporter wall and album bundle display on the track page, pulling in 10 files of new components and database schema changes.
Another major arc was the buy-digital-album card. I implemented SSR for this feature, ensuring the checkout-mirroring price renders correctly on the server. I also added a guest round-trip flow where a user can start the checkout process without being logged in. This required careful handling of hydration, so I fixed a React #418 issue by deferring the localStorage queue and preferences restore to a post-mount effect. This ensures the store starts empty on both the server and the client, preventing mismatches.
I built out the full component, including the amount input, floor hints, and the ability for users to pick +$1, +$2, or +$5 additions.
I also tackled a nasty bug that was causing 500 errors on every commented track. The issue was in the API comments endpoint, where I was using ANY(${ids}::uuid[]) in an IN-list context. This was the same drizzle array bug that had popped up in the Stripe webhooks accrual reversal. I fixed it by switching to a proper IN-list implementation. I also added 35 unit cases for the comments API and reactions to ensure param validation happens before SQL execution, covering pagination clamps, tree assembly, and tombstone formatting.
Performance and SEO were also high priorities. I optimized image requests by adding ?w=640 variants to cover, hero, and backdrop srcs via sizedArtworkUrl. This reduced the initial payload significantly. I also fixed the LCP (Largest Contentful Paint) for album and track pages by capping social images at 1200px and stopping the preloading of six original PNGs on the discover page. For SEO, I added canonical URLs, 301 redirects for www to apex, and proper 404 handling for missing albums and tracks. I also ensured that OG images are generated via /api/og for discover, genres, featured, radio, and creators pages.
Finally, I ran a battery of health checks. I wrote 20 fast curl cases in scripts/live-checks.sh to verify pages, API shapes, and redirects against the deployed site. I also updated the smoke tests to include edge/SEO checks, such as HSTS headers and trailing-slash normalization. The radio page now correctly 307s to /live on the edge, and I added visibility-gated live-status polling with exponential backoff to reduce unnecessary requests.
Also today: I fixed hydration issues with the global player, improved accessibility by bumping muted text to full opacity, and ensured anchors land clear of the sticky header.
The day added up to a cleaner, faster, and more reliable site, with a solid foundation for the new pricing and purchase features. The E02 bundle is ready for prime time.
